Chengping Sun
is associate professor of Hainan University at the College of Foreign Languages. His research field covers translation studies and international literature. In 2017, he was elected and sponsored by Chinese Scholarship Council to do research at the Center for Translation Studies, UTD. He has published widely in literary translation, especially novels.
Allan Barr
is a professor of Chinese at Pomona College. As a longtime scholar of classical Chinese literature, he examines the relationship between fiction and history. As a translator of modern Chinese literature, he has translated several books by Yu Hua, one of China’s most celebrated living authors, including the widely admired China in Ten Words . He also edited and translated the collected blog posts of one of China’s most controversial celebrities—author, blogger, and racecar driver Han Han. In this interview, Allan Barr talks about his experience in translating Yu Hua and his perceptions of literary translation.
